Judith Tucker is an artist and academic, her work explores the meeting of social history, personal memory and geography; it investigates their relationship through drawing, painting and writing.
\nShe completed a B.A. Fine Art at the Ruskin School of Art, University of Oxford (1978 \u2013 81) and an M.A. Fine Art followed by a PhD in Fine Art at the University of Leeds (1999 \u2013 2002). Between 2003 and 2006 she held an AHRC fellowship in the Creative and Performing Arts at the University of Leeds.

\nIn 2013 she was invited to be one of the artists in Contemporary British Painting a platform for contemporary painting in the UK. She is currently vice-chair of the organisation.

She co-convenes the networks Land2<\/strong> https:\/\/land2.leeds.ac.uk\/<\/a>
\nand Mapping SpectralTraces<\/strong>. http:\/\/www.mappingspectraltraces.org\/<\/a>
\nShe also writes academic essays which can be found in academic journals and in books published by Rodopi, Macmillan and MUP. She has a long-term collaboration with the radical landscape poet Harriet Tarlo.<\/p>\n

In 2018 and 2019 she was a finalist in the Jackson\u2019s Painting Prize and in third time luck in 2020, she was awarded the Scenes of Everyday Life category prize. In 2019 she was shortlisted for the first Westmorland Landscape Prize exhibition. In 2018 she was selected to be one of ten UK artists exhibiting in the inaugural Yantai Biennal, China. Other exhibition venues include Arthouse1 and Collyer Bristow London and many regional galleries throughout the UK, and further afield in Iasi, Romania, Gdansk, Poland, Brno, Czech Republic, Vienna, Austria, Minneapolis and Virginia USA and Yantai, Nanjing and Tianjin in China.

\nHere are some images of her studio at the top of a farmhouse in West Yorkshire. One of the aspects of this space that is so appealing is that it was always a workshop or store area for wool or weaving: it was never part of the living area, right from when it was built. When she’s painting in there she likes to think about all those who worked in it before her.<\/p>\n

As well as being in her studio she is also Senior Lecturer in the School of Design at the University of Leeds.<\/p>\n
