{"id":1000,"date":"2024-06-23T21:02:15","date_gmt":"2024-06-23T20:02:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/research.reading.ac.uk\/accommodating-diversity-in-the-workplace\/?p=1000"},"modified":"2024-06-23T21:32:42","modified_gmt":"2024-06-23T20:32:42","slug":"the-2nd-accommodating-diversity-in-the-workplace-conference-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/research.reading.ac.uk\/accommodating-diversity-in-the-workplace\/the-2nd-accommodating-diversity-in-the-workplace-conference-2\/","title":{"rendered":"The 2nd Accommodating Diversity in the Workplace Conference"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We hosted our 2nd Accommodating Diversity in the Workplace Conference at the University of Reading, UK on Tuesday 11th June 2024, following on from our successful <a href=\"https:\/\/research.reading.ac.uk\/accommodating-diversity-in-the-workplace\/1st-accommodating-diversity-in-the-workplace-conference\/\">1st Accommodating Diversity in the Workplace Conference.<\/a> Thank you to everyone who participated and especially our speakers. This interdisciplinary conference was aimed at academics, practitioners and employers interested in issues of diversity and inclusion in the workplace and their implications for workplace practice. You can catch up with the presentations below:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.reading.ac.uk\/economics\/our-staff\/professor-sarah-jewell\">Professor Sarah Jewell<\/a> from the University of Reading\u00a0 kicked off the conference providing insights from the <a href=\"https:\/\/research.reading.ac.uk\/accommodating-diversity-in-the-workplace\/current-projects\/maternal-well-being-infant-feeding-and-return-to-paid-work-decisions\/\">&#8216;Maternal well-being, infant feeding and return to paid work&#8217;<\/a> study she is leading which is being funded by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nuffieldfoundation.org\/project\/maternal-wellbeing-infant-feeding-return-to-work\">Nuffield Foundation<\/a>. You can hear Sarah&#8217;s presentation below. However, due to technical problems the start of the presentation is missing but we also hosted a conference a week later dedicated to the &#8216;Maternal well-being, infant feeding and return to paid work&#8217; study with all the recordings available on the <a href=\"https:\/\/research.reading.ac.uk\/accommodating-diversity-in-the-workplace\/infant-feeding-and-return-to-paid-work-conference-2\/\">conference&#8217;s webpage<\/a> if you wish to catch up with that conference.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"2nd Accommodating Diversity in the Workplace conference: Professor Sarah Jewell\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/joea0M6fFLM?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>We then heard from Madeline Best who is a PhD student based in the Institute of Education at the University of Reading. Madeline talked about her PhD research which is focusing on &#8216;Teacher-mothers: the challenges faced when returning from parental leave;. You can catch up on Madeline&#8217;s presentation below:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"2nd Accommodating Diversity in the Workplace conference: Madeline Best\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/03oGZh5Ew_c?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/kent-business-school\/people\/2407\">Dr Samantha Evans<\/a> from the University of Kent started the second session talking about her British Academy small grant study: &#8216;Addressing the class bias in research on the menopause \u2013 exploring the lived experiences of menopausal women in the workplace&#8217;. The pilot study is taking place at the University of Kent and fills an important gap in the literature on menopause in the workplace. A critical exploration of work-family dynamics, discussing experiences of Brazilian migrants, a topic close to her heart.
