Linux Desktops<\/h1>\n

Description<\/h2>\n

The\u00a0Linux Desktop<\/em>\u00a0service uses NoMachine NX to provide access to Linux desktop environment software running on a set of servers, via client software running on office desktop computers.
\nThe main purpose of the Linux Desktop Service is to facilitate the use of the Research Processing service for Windows and Mac users.
\nUsing the\u00a0NoMachine software, you’ll have to first connect to\u00a0nx.reading.ac.uk.\u00a0Read more…<\/a><\/p>\n

The only Linux desktop applications supported by IT are the following terminal emulators: gnome-terminal and xterm.\u00a0 Other Linux desktop applications may be installed but no support for their use is available from IT.<\/p>\n

How to access<\/h2>\n

The NX service is available to all staff and students.\u00a0 However, from January 2021, if you haven\u2019t used it before, if you require off-campus access,\u00a0 you will need to request it by sending an email to it@reading.ac.uk<\/a>.<\/p>\n
