Staff and students at the University of Reading have access to cloud file storage via OneDrive for Business.<\/a> Data transfer between Linux storage volumes, such as Linux home directories and research data storage and OneDrive is possible using the method described below.<\/p>\n

Please note that using rclone on our academic computing systems via command line is no longer supported.<\/strong> The most reliable transfer method between OneDrive and Linux storage is via the web interface on NX, please see below. You can request rclone for individual use from https:\/\/myaccess.microsoft.com\/@livereadingac.onmicrosoft.com#\/access-packages<\/a> and sign in with your University credentials when prompted.<\/p>\n

Accessing OneDrive via a web browser on NX<\/h1>\n

From a web browser on the managed Linux desktop NX, files between OneDrive and Linux storage can be directly transferred. Here’s how:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Log in to NX via NoMachine<\/a>.<\/li>\n
  2. In the ‘Applications’ menu tab, find the ‘Internet’ category and choose one of the available web browsers (see image below).\"\"<\/li>\n
  3. Navigate to office.com and sign in with your university username and password. Note that the username on office.com needs to be of the form ‘ab123456@reading.ac.uk’.<\/li>\n
  4. Once signed in, select ‘Apps’ from the sidebar on the left hand side and then choose ‘OneDrive’. This will show you your files on your OneDrive storage, which can be downloaded via the pop-up menu in the 3 dots next to their filenames. Note that downloaded files go to \/home\/users\/username\/Downloads in the home directory by default. \"\"<\/li>\n
  5. If you wish to upload a file to your OneDrive storage, select the blue ‘+’ icon at the top of the navigation panel, which expands to ‘+ Create or upload’, as seen in the image below. This lets you browse your Linux storage directories for files to transfer to your OneDrive storage.\u00a0 \"\"<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
