Our Research

The ALO will conduct research that is driven by the knowledge needs of livestock owners, pastoralist organisations and NGOs in the sector, government institutions and international organisations, including the African Union, the FAO, IFAD and the CG centres. It will collaborate widely to co-produce research and ‘state-of-the-art’ reports on long-term trends in livestock production, taking account of the environmental, social, economic, political contexts and conditions within which livestock-owning communities seek to thrive. It will play an active role in uncovering and critically evaluating the implications of shifts in donor support to pastoralists and its research will aim to embolden African voices in global forums with rigorous and robust data on changes in livestock systems.
