The African Livestock Observatory (ALO) was established in July 2024 in response to the escalating global polycrisis, particularly the climate change emergency and accelerating biodiversity loss, whose impacts are disproportionately felt across Africa.<\/p>\n

ALO brings together research, evidence, and African perspectives on livestock systems across the continent. By connecting scholarship, policy dialogue, and lived experiences, the Observatory aims to strengthen understanding of pastoral livelihoods, rangeland management, and resilient food systems.Livestock-owning communities across the continent are facing mounting pressures from climate variability, rangeland degradation, land-use change, and shifting market dynamics.<\/p>\n

Vision<\/strong>
A resilient, inclusive, and data-driven African livestock sector that sustains livelihoods, strengthens ecosystems, and shapes global decision-making.<\/p>\n

Mission<\/strong>
To generate, curate, and amplify credible African livestock data and insights, empowering policymakers, researchers, and pastoral communities to make informed, inclusive, and sustainable decisions.<\/p>\n
