{"id":604,"date":"2025-06-18T10:47:21","date_gmt":"2025-06-18T09:47:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/research.reading.ac.uk\/agrifood-futures\/?p=604"},"modified":"2025-09-09T10:49:32","modified_gmt":"2025-09-09T09:49:32","slug":"top-50-for-reading-in-the-global-impact-rankings-2025","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/research.reading.ac.uk\/agrifood-futures\/top-50-for-reading-in-the-global-impact-rankings-2025\/","title":{"rendered":"Top 50 for Reading in THE Global Impact Rankings 2025"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The University of Reading\u00a0is among the\u00a0world\u2019s\u00a0top\u00a050\u00a0universities in\u00a0its support of\u00a0sustainable\u00a0global\u00a0development, according\u00a0to the\u00a0Times Higher Education (THE) Global Impact Rankings 2025.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Reading is ranked\u00a0equal\u00a050 in the world,\u00a0from 2,318 participating institutions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The rankings highlight the contribution of universities worldwide in supporting the United Nations\u2019 17 sustainable development goals (SDGs), which address global challenges such as hunger,\u00a0equality\u00a0and environmental threats.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The position was achieved after Reading ranked highly across a range of\u00a0global\u00a0goals, including:\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"letter-spacing: 0.08px\" data-contrast=\"auto\">9 from 973 in SDG12 &#8211; Responsible production and consumption.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"letter-spacing: 0.08px\" data-contrast=\"auto\">This\u00a0was ranked on evidence including the\u00a0University\u2019s\u00a0<\/span><a style=\"letter-spacing: 0.08px\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hospitalityuor.co.uk\/clever-cuisine\/nutrition\/\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Menus of Change programme<\/span><\/a><span style=\"letter-spacing: 0.08px\" data-contrast=\"auto\">, which promotes ethical food\u00a0sourcing, plant-based<\/span><span style=\"letter-spacing: 0.08px\" data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"letter-spacing: 0.08px\" data-contrast=\"auto\">options\u00a0and food waste reduction across university catering.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"letter-spacing: 0.08px\" data-contrast=\"auto\">76 from 1,089 in SDG13 &#8211; Climate action.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"letter-spacing: 0.08px\" data-contrast=\"auto\">Among the successes highlighted, the\u00a0the\u00a0<\/span><a style=\"letter-spacing: 0.08px\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reading.ac.uk\/planet\/climate-education\/climate-ambassador-scheme\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Climate Ambassador Scheme<\/span><\/a><span style=\"letter-spacing: 0.08px\" data-contrast=\"auto\">, which was set up by the University of Reading and expanded across the UK, connects\u00a0climate\u00a0experts with schools nationwide to build climate knowledge and skills in young people.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"letter-spacing: 0.08px\" data-contrast=\"auto\">36 from 1,261 in SDG10 &#8211; Reducing inequality<\/span><span style=\"letter-spacing: 0.08px\" data-contrast=\"auto\">.\u00a0This ranking\u00a0position\u00a0reflected evidence\u00a0including\u00a0Reading\u2019s active diversity networks, including the\u00a0BAME Network, LGBT Plus Network, Parent and Family Network, Staff Disability Network,\u00a0Women@Reading\u00a0group,\u00a0and others\u00a0aimed at\u00a0supporting\u00a0active participation.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">A University of Reading spokesperson said: \u201cThe University of Reading has made\u00a0sustainability\u00a0its number one mission, and we embed our commitment to environmental\u00a0sustainability\u00a0across all subject areas and activities.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cThis strong ranking performance reflects Reading\u2019s leadership as a university\u00a0in\u00a0supporting\u00a0sustainable\u00a0development via the United Nations\u2019 Global Goals.
