In recent years, following campaigns by the National Autistic Society and other organisations, there have been improvements in the general public\u2019s knowledge and understanding of autism and self-reported attitudes to autism are largely positive. However, despite these improved attitudes, many autistic people still face stigma and negative social experiences including shunning and bullying. We are therefore carrying out a project where we ask autistic people about the attitudes and experiences that they have encountered in everyday life. This will help us to understand the challenges and barriers that still exist. In turn, this will help to inform public education campaigns that are helping to battle these attitudes and reduce negative experiences.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
