PURPOSE:\u00a0<\/strong>This sensory study is looking at the relationship between sensory reactivity differences, such as hyper-reactivity (e.g. over-responsivity to touch), hypo-reactivity (e.g. under-responsivity to sounds), and seeking (e.g. fascination with lights), and mental health symptoms in autistic children<\/p>\n

The information collected from the study will help to increase knowledge about sensory issues in individuals with and without clinical conditions, such as Autism Spectrum Condition.<\/p>\n

WHO DO WE NEED:\u00a0<\/strong>Individuals 3-5\u00a0of age\u00a0with a diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder.<\/p>\n

PROCEDURE:\u00a0<\/strong>You will be asked to fill out questionnaires about your child\u2019s development and responses towards sensory stimuli, such as sounds. Autism diagnostic observations will be conducted to measure autism symptoms of your child. They will also undergo testing of their abilities to perceive sensory stimuli such as light, sounds and touch. All tasks will be presented as games and should take around 1.5 hours to complete. You will be paid \u00a315 for your time and your child will receive a small prize and science t-shirt.<\/p>\n

This application has been reviewed by the University Research Ethics Committee and has been given a favourable ethical opinion for conduct.<\/em><\/p>\n
