The Samuel Beckett Research Centre<\/h3>\n

We are an interdisciplinary hub for creative and scholarly engagement with the works of Samuel Beckett. We actively promote all aspects of Samuel Beckett's legacy, especially the potential his work offers to creative artists.<\/p>\n

To this end, we commission new work<\/a> by contemporary writers, composers and visual artists. Our world-leading archive<\/a> of Beckett\u2019s manuscripts and other materials offers a wellspring of creative and critical inspiration for these new works.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

Beckett's Creative Legacy<\/h3>\n

In recognition of Beckett's living legacies within the creative arts, the University of Reading's Samuel Beckett Research Centre hosts a series of Creative Fellowships<\/a>, enabling leading writers, performers, artists, and musicians to develop new projects and insights through unique access to and engagement with the University's archival resources and Beckett specialists.<\/p>\n

Samuel Beckett has influenced and inspired the work of countless international writers, artists, musicians and filmmakers, including Avigdor Arikha, <\/span>John Banville, <\/span>J. M. Coetzee, <\/span>Mark Frost, <\/span>Philip Glass, <\/span>Jasper Johns, <\/span>Sarah Kane, <\/span>Charlie Kaufman, <\/span>Gy\u00f6rgy Kurt\u00e1g, <\/span>Suzan-Lori Parks, <\/span>Harold Pinter, <\/span>Patti Smith, <\/span>Susan Sontag and <\/span>Kate Tempest.<\/span><\/p>\n

Among those who have spoken of the impact of Beckett's work on their own is the award-winning novelist James Kelman, who gave a guest lecture at the launch of the Samuel Beckett Research Centre in 2017. You can watch the recording below.<\/p>\n
