Ms Ruby Vajaria has done a Masters by Research in biomedical science with an interest in neuroendocrinology, particularly researching the sub-cellular localisation of G- protein coupled estrogen receptor 1  (GPER1).  The sub-cellular localisation of GPER1 was  anaylsed  in neuronal cultures derived from stem cells. Her interdisciplinary PhD research is focusing on the potential neuroprotective role ofestrogen in the prefrontal cortex; a region in the brain known for decision-making and cognitive function. The aim is to understand the role of estrogen in the brain at a sub-cellular level using immunocytochemistry and immunohistochemistry techniques and at the systems level via characterising the putative effect of estrogen on brain activity in terms of criticality.
