Borth has around 1,500 houses, many of which have long histories connecting the village and the sea. Some of the houses go back to the early 19th century when they were built by master mariners. Many houses today are named after the ships of master mariners and the places that they visited.
Probably the most famous book to come out of Borth is Houses of Borth by Beryl Lewis. The volume contains more than 350 histories of individual buildings, illustrated with photographs, maps and documents. Lewis’ full work can be viewed online on the webpages of the Ceredigion Archives.
