Herring gulls are adaptable and opportunistic feeders that include herring in their diet but will eat almost anything that is available. In coastal towns and villages they are often viewed as pests, but not everyone sees them in this way.
Borth resident, Naomi Salmon, describes how, several years ago, she nursed back to health a herring gull chick that fell off her roof. She said about her photograph: “I like to think that this confident gull may be the one we cared for after he/she came off the roof too early. He is totally calm but ‘intense’ when I chat to him out of my bedroom window. I love the herring gulls!”.
