People living in coastal communities, like Borth, hold valuable knowledge about the coast and how it has changed over time. They understand the risks involved in living close to the sea, including those associated with climate change and sea level rise. They also have capacities to adapt to instability and affect social change.

This knowledge is not always captured or considered in formal planning and these communities are sometimes represented by media, researchers and decisionmakers in ways that do not reflect local priorities and interests.

Our work collects and shares these stories, through this website and digital archive, and works with local authorities and policymakers to explore how lived experience can inform future approaches to coastal planning and flood management.

Policy Brief December 2025

The stories and memories shared during the course of our work in Borth have been used to inform a short summary document for planners and policymakers. This Policy Brief is a collation from both projects and highlights the importance of lived experience when thinking about future risks from the sea.
