Residents describe how, in earlier times, people’s homes in Borth were well adapted to shoreline living. During storm surges, seawater would regularly enter people’s homes, but stone floors and drains set into buildings would allow this to quickly wash away. Front doors were set to the sides of buildings where they were sheltered from the direct force of the sea.
