Borth is a village intimately connected to the sea. This website contains the record of two projects that have explored how the village’s history, community and identity are shaped by its relationship with the sea and with storm events.<\/p>\n

In 2024 our project ‘Life on the Edge<\/a>‘ looked at historical and present-day connections between the people of Borth and the sea. It is a thin strip of a village that sits on top of a shingle spit, barely a metre above present high tide levels. To the west is the relatively shallow expanse of Bae Ceredigion<\/a><\/span> and beyond that waters of the the Irish Sea. To the east stretches Cors Fochno<\/a>, a large expanse of nationally significant lowland raised bog that nestles beneath the Cambrian Mountains<\/a>. Given its unique setting it is easy to see why some from the village may describe themselves as living with \u2018one foot in the sea\u2019.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
