Botany teaching at Reading has a long and illustrious history with past Professors of Botany including Peter Crane, Vernon Heywood and David Moore. Today Reading botany alumni are found across the\u00a0globe making significant contributions to\u00a0plant science, conservation and education.<\/p>\n

The core botany teaching team at Reading includes Professor Julie Hawkins and Associate Professors Alastair Culham, Jonathan Mitchley and Brian Pickles. \u00a0Our botany teaching focus is on both modules within undergraduate<\/a> and postgraduate degrees including the popular MSc Species Identification and Survey Skills<\/a>, and our MSc in plant diversity<\/a> which was started by Professor Vernon Heywood in 1969 and has been running in continuously evolving and developing formats for 50 years.<\/p>\n

We are also planning and developing new undergraduate modules in UK habitats and species identification and global plant families to equip our undergraduates with the knowledge and skills they need to take their place among the next generation of botanists dealing with taxonomic, conservation, ecological and sustainability \u00a0issues for the 21st century.<\/p>\n
