CeLM provides a platform for our researchers and practitioners to engage with the public, schools, charities, NGOs and other organisations, and with policy makers and policy shapers to ensure our research contributes to global debates and benefits the economic and social life of Reading and beyond.<\/p>\n<p>Examples of our research that has had real world impact include:[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/4&#8243;][vc_single_image image=&#8221;4563&#8243; img_size=&#8221;medium&#8221;][\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;3\/4&#8243;][vc_column_text]<strong style=\"letter-spacing: 0.08px\"><a href=\"https:\/\/research.reading.ac.uk\/engagement-and-impact\/changing-the-conversation-tackling-hate-speech-in-italy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Changing the conversation: tackling hate speech in Italy<\/a><br \/>\n<\/strong>A combination of research, consultancy and public engagement led by <a href=\"https:\/\/research.reading.ac.uk\/celm\/federico-faloppa\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Professor Federico Faloppa<\/a> is revolutionising attitudes towards hate speech in Italy and beyond.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/4&#8243;][vc_single_image image=&#8221;4566&#8243; img_size=&#8221;medium&#8221;][\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;3\/4&#8243;][vc_column_text]<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/research.reading.ac.uk\/engagement-and-impact\/language-for-resilience-helping-refugees-process-trauma\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Language for resilience: helping refugees process trauma<\/a><\/strong><br \/>\nResearch led by <a href=\"https:\/\/research.reading.ac.uk\/celm\/tony-capstick\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dr Tony Capstick<\/a> on how the use of \u2018home languages\u2019 can help refugees process and recover from trauma is influencing language teaching in classrooms across the world.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/4&#8243;][vc_single_image image=&#8221;4564&#8243; img_size=&#8221;medium&#8221;][\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;3\/4&#8243;][vc_column_text]<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/research.reading.ac.uk\/engagement-and-impact\/teaching-literacy-as-easy-as-abc\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Teaching literacy: As easy as ABC?<\/a><\/strong><br \/>\nBy helping teachers to understand how different children learn to read, a research team of <a href=\"https:\/\/research.reading.ac.uk\/celm\/naomi-flynn\/\">Dr Naomi Flynn<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/research.reading.ac.uk\/celm\/holly-joseph\/\">Dr Holly Joseph<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/research.reading.ac.uk\/celm\/daisy-powell\/\">Dr Daisy Powell<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reading.ac.uk\/education\/about\/staff\/r-w-stainthorp.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Professor Rhona Stainthorp<\/a> are equipping them to better meet the needs of their pupils \u2013 including those whose home language is not English.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/4&#8243;][vc_single_image image=&#8221;4565&#8243; img_size=&#8221;medium&#8221;][\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;3\/4&#8243;][vc_column_text]<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/research.reading.ac.uk\/engagement-and-impact\/dont-quit-motivating-foreign-language-students\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Don\u2019t quit!
