{"id":4823,"date":"2022-01-14T10:22:03","date_gmt":"2022-01-14T10:22:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/research.reading.ac.uk\/celm\/?p=4823"},"modified":"2022-01-14T12:57:52","modified_gmt":"2022-01-14T12:57:52","slug":"multilingualism-and-social-justice","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/research.reading.ac.uk\/celm\/multilingualism-and-social-justice\/","title":{"rendered":"Multilingualism and Social Justice"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Join us for <strong>Multilingualism and Social Justice;<\/strong> our next <strong>free online public event on 21st February 2022 from 18:00 &#8211; 19:30, for International Mother Language Day.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Leading academics from across disciplines from the Centre for Literacy and Multilingualism (CeLM) at the University of Reading will come together to present and discuss their international research with multilingual children and adults; research that challenges social inequality.\u00a0How do minoritized young people experience education, migration and health provision and how does their multilingualism sit within wider issues of race, disability and access to services?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">A round table discussion format will provide an opportunity for the audience to engage with experts in the field.<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.reading.ac.uk\/education\/staff\/naomi-flynn\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dr Naomi Flynn<\/a> will talk about her research in US schools examining a language-rich pedagogy shown to improve educational outcomes of minoritized groups of learners.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.reading.ac.uk\/pcls\/staff\/vishnu-nair\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dr Vishnu Nair<\/a> will talk about racial disproportionality of minoritized children in speech and language services through the intersecting lens of race and disability.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.reading.ac.uk\/en\/elal\/staff\/dr-tony-capstick\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dr Tony Capstick<\/a> will talk about Multilingual pedagogies and social justice in language education in the Global South.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.reading.ac.uk\/modern-languages-and-european-studies\/Aboutus\/Stafflist\/f-faloppa.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dr Federico Faloppa<\/a> will talk about Multilingualism (and mother tongues) through multilingual unaccompanied minors\u2019 perspectives.
