Recent research conducted while Research Fellow on the Leverhulme-funded project The Business of Women\u2019s Words: Purpose and Profit in Feminist Publishing, has focused on the feminist publisher Virago Press.<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cambridge.org\/core\/elements\/abs\/virago-reprints-and-modern-classics\/B08CEA91E5C1B507CD4ECA77E97BCA9D#element\"> <i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Virago Reprints and Modern Classics: The Timely Business of Feminist Publishing<\/span><\/i><\/a> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">was published in 2021.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Prior to this, their research engaged with questions of transmission, feminism, archives and the digital \u2013 their monograph <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Feminism, Digital Culture and the Politics of Transmission: Theory, Practice and Cultural Heritage<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> won the<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/the-fsa.co.uk\/2016\/10\/24\/fwsa-2016-book-prize-winner\/\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Feminist Studies Association Book Prize in 2016<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. Their PhD, awarded in 2008, told stories about subjectivity in Kate Bush\u2019s music; in 2019 they were delighted to give the opening keynote at This Woman\u2019s Work, the first academic conference dedicated to Bush\u2019s music and career.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Alongside academic work, Dr Withers is an experienced curator. They acted as curatorial consultant for the British Library exhibition <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Unfinished Business: the Fight for Women\u2019s Rights<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (2020-21) and was guest curator for <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Still I Rise: Feminisms, Gender, Resistance Act 3<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (2019). In 2011 they curated <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Sistershow Revisited: Feminism in Bristol 1973-75<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and in 2012 <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Music &amp; Liberation<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, a touring exhibition about music making in the women\u2019s liberation movement.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">They are currently working on several projects, including a biography of populist publisher and philanthropist Paul Hamlyn, provisionally titled Business for Pleasure: The Life and Enterprises of Paul Hamlyn; a slate of screenplays for television, including several dramatisations of forgotten feminist and queer histories; and a reprint publishing
