From original funding awarded to Tricia Riddell in 1997 the lab was adapted and improved over the years to its final form in 2021.<\/h4>\n<h2>Professor Anna Horwood PhD DBO(T)<\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-60\" src=\"https:\/\/research.reading.ac.uk\/childrens-vision\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/38\/2018\/01\/anna-horwood.jpg\" alt=\"Professor Anna Horwood PhD DBO(T)\" width=\"213\" height=\"234\" \/>Anna\u2019s main role was running the lab which Tricia set up in 1997. Anna is a clinical orthoptist by profession and moved from clinical work into research over the past few years, obtaining a PhD in 2002 with Tricia as her supervisor. She retired from the university in 2021 and is now Professor Emeritus, but still maintains some clinical orthoptics sessions at the Royal Berkshire Hospital. She has been funded by two prestigious Fellowships from the Medical Research Council (MRC) and the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR). The lab has also received funding from Fight for Sight and the Worshipful Company of Spectacle Makers.<\/p>\n<p>Anna was Research Director for the British Isles Orthoptics profession, involved in many aspects of orthoptic research and education worldwide.<\/p>\n<ul style=\"letter-spacing: 0.08px\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/research.reading.ac.uk\/childrens-vision\/team\/anna-horwood\/\">Find out more about Anna<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.reading.ac.uk\/psychology\/about\/staff\/a-m-horwood.aspx\">See Anna&#8217;s staff profile on the University of Reading website<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Professor Patricia Riddell DPhil<\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-63\" src=\"https:\/\/research.reading.ac.uk\/childrens-vision\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/38\/2018\/01\/tricia-riddell.jpg\" alt=\"Professor Patricia Riddell DPhil\" width=\"190\" height=\"232\" \/>From a background in many different aspects of developmental vision science Tricia is\u00a0 <span style=\"letter-spacing: 0.08px\">Professor of Applied Neuroscience at the University of Reading and also <\/span><span style=\"letter-spacing: 0.08px\">been Head of Psychology there. A large grant from the MRC awarded to Tricia in 1997 funded the initial setting up of the lab and she and Anna have continued to develop it over the years. Tricia remains closely involved in the work of the lab and she is particularly involved with research planning, grant applications and writing papers. As well as vision science, she also has many other research interests in neuroscience, vision, reading and teaching, leadership and coaching.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.reading.ac.uk\/psychology\/about\/staff\/p-m-riddell.aspx\">See Tricia&#8217;s staff profile on the University of Reading website<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Siobh\u00e1n Ludden PhD<\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-61\" src=\"https:\/\/research.reading.ac.uk\/childrens-vision\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/38\/2018\/01\/siobhan-ludden.jpg\" alt=\"Siobh\u00e1n Ludden BMedSci(Hons)\" width=\"200\" height=\"235\" \/>Siobh\u00e1n finished her PhD in 2018. Following graduation from the University of Sheffield in 2011, she worked at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London, initially as a full time clinical orthoptist and later in a research position. Siobh\u00e1n\u2019s PhD was funded by the charity <a href=\"http:\/\/fightforsight.org.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fight for Sight<\/a> and\u00a0 investigated accommodation (focusing) in primary school children and how it relates to reading ability and education. She worked as a Research Orthoptist at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.moorfields.nhs.uk\/\">Moorfields Eye Hospital<\/a> in London then returned to work in Dublin where she hopes to carry on with clinical research.<\/p>\n<h2>Sonia Toor PhD<\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-62\" src=\"https:\/\/research.reading.ac.uk\/childrens-vision\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/38\/2018\/01\/sonia-toor.jpg\" alt=\"Sonia Toor MSc\" width=\"180\" height=\"240\" \/>Sonia did her PhD in Reading between 2011 and 2014, as Research Assistant on Anna\u2019s MRC funded Clinician Scientist Award. As well as doing a huge amount of work testing in the lab, she took particular responsibility for the research into how people respond to anisometropia (a difference in glasses prescription between the eyes). She has now left Reading. After a period working as an orthoptist at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London, she is now a lecturer in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sheffield.ac.uk\/health-sciences\/phd-study\/orthoptics-and-opthalmology\/sonia-toor\">Orthoptics at the University of Sheffield.<\/a>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Who we are and what we are doing now Our small team has published a significant body of work looking at children&#8217;s focusing.
