You are invited to take part in an MRI study, which investigates how learning and using a second language affects the brain. We are looking for both\u00a0speakers of English as a second language who live in the UK <\/strong>(including learning both languages from birth), and\u00a0native speakers of English <\/strong>(with little to no experience with a second language). Participants need to be\u00a0right-handed<\/strong>\u00a0and have\u00a0no history of speech and\/or language disorders including dyslexia.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

What do I have to do?<\/em><\/p>\n

A single session that will take place in the Centre for Integrative Neuroscience and Neurodynamics (CINN), in the School of Psychology and Clinical Language Sciences,University of Reading. You will undergo a scanning session and complete a cognitive and (if you are a non-native speaker of English) an English proficiency task. You will also be asked to fill out a Language Background Questionnaire before the scanning day.<\/p>\n

How long will it take?<\/em><\/p>\n

The MRI scan lasts about 60 minutes, and the whole session will last about two hours.<\/p>\n

You will receive a contribution payment of \u00a320 towards travel expenses and\/or compensation for your time spent with us. You will also receive a high-resolution anatomical image of your brain later, after your participation.<\/p>\n
