{"id":7069,"date":"2008-09-16T11:39:31","date_gmt":"2008-09-16T10:39:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/research.reading.ac.uk\/cinn\/?page_id=7069"},"modified":"2024-09-16T13:38:33","modified_gmt":"2024-09-16T12:38:33","slug":"physiolab","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/research.reading.ac.uk\/cinn\/facilities\/physiolab\/","title":{"rendered":"Physiology Laboratory"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>[vc_row][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/4&#8243;][vc_single_image source=&#8221;featured_image&#8221; img_size=&#8221;full&#8221;][\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;3\/4&#8243;][vc_column_text]The Physiology Laboratory at CINN supports the acquisition of physiological data using specialized equipment, including an ultrasound machine, Laser Doppler Flowmetry, and blood collection devices.<\/p>\n<h2>Blood sample and physiological data collection<\/h2>\n<p>Our facility includes a phlebotomy bed and the necessary equipment for collecting biological samples, such as blood and saliva, which can then be processed and analyzed in our in-house <a href=\"https:\/\/research.reading.ac.uk\/cinn\/facilities\/biolab\/\">Biology Laboratory<\/a>. By incorporating YourBioHealth\u2019s innovative Tap Activated Phlebotomy (TAP) devices, we can collect substantial quantities of capillary blood in a far less invasive manner compared to venipuncture with a needle or cannula. We are also equipped to perform Laser Doppler Flowmetry, which measures changes in microvascular blood perfusion.<\/p>\n<h2>Ultrasound machine<\/h2>\n<p>Our Siemens Acuson Redwood Ultrasound machine has a 5V1, 10L4, CW2, and 14L5 probe capable of measuring vascular changes and soft tissue structures. This machine can be used in a wide variety of research applications, including the assessment of live blood flow changes in the body and brain, voice box (laryngeal) function, and connective tissue strength. The ultrasound machine can also be used for electrocardiography (ECG or EKG) to assess the function of the heart.
