Following the success of last year's Pain Research Reading Conference, which focused on the translatability of pain research, this year's event aims to tackle the general concept of pain, taking into consideration the perspective of patients, clinicians and academics.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The one-day conference, to be held on the 22nd of June, is titled: 'The power of perspective: What is Pain?'<\/strong> organised by the Pain Research Reading team, including CINN Post-doc and co-lead for the Pain Lab Rich Harrison.<\/a> The event will open with the plenary lecture by Associate Professor of Cell and Developmental Biology Sandrine Geranton<\/a> (UCL), followed by a series of Oral Presentations by various Early Career Researchers (ECR) at the University of Reading. After a poster session, the titular topic will be discussed by experts from diverse backgrounds including philosophy (Emma Borg<\/a>), anaesthesiology (Atul Kapila<\/a>) and physiology (Ewan St John Smith<\/a>). The event will be held at the Meadow Suite on the Whiteknights campus at the University of Reading, and is a collated effort by CINN, UoR and the Royal Berkshire Hospital (RBH), to develop our understanding behind the nature of pain, the detrimental impact it has on patients, and to foster and build new connections between academics and clinicians.<\/p>\n

Poster presentations for the event are still being sought, and the two best pitches will be promoted to oral presentations. However, there is a deadline of 29th of May for these submissions.<\/p>\n
