GENESIS stands for \u201cGenicular artery embolisation for osteoarthritis of the knee\u201d. This study is a interdisciplinary experiment to investigate the use of \u2019embolisation\u2019 as a surgical treatment for knee osteoarthritis (OA). However, this intervention (alongside all surgical interventions for OA) creates a subset of patients who do not experience the benefits of the surgery, have no pain relief, or in some instances, experience deterioration.<\/p>\n

In CINN, we will administer a neuropsychological assessment battery before the procedure, to attempt to identify predictive markers for clinical outcomes to embolisation. This assessment uses psychometric, sensory pain and neuroscientific approaches to profile each patient, and identify features of resilience and vulnerability within.<\/p>\n
