SUMMARY:Workshop on Critical Transitions in Complex Systems 2020 (online)
DESCRIPTION:Workshop on Critical Transitions in Complex Systems 2020 (online)\, 29th – 31st July 2020 \nComplex systems research has been at the forefront of scientific priorities for some time and many very interesting phenomena have been identified and explored in the context of a wide variety of applications. This workshop is part of a series\, reflecting on an emerging movement to develop a mathematical theory for sudden changes in the dynamical behaviour of complex systems\, so-called critical transitions. The prospect to develop reliable early-warning signals for such critical transitions is potentially far-reaching since these could lead to better control strategies to avoid or diminish the effect of catastrophes. \nConfirmed speakers include: \nThomas Bury (McGill University\, Canada)\nKwang-Hyun Cho (Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology\, South Korea)\nMark Dekker (University of Utrecht\, The Netherlands)\nDeniz Eroglu (Kadir Has University\, Turkey)\nPeter Ditlevsen (Niels Bohr Institute\, Denmark)\nMarino Gavidia (University of Luxembourg\, Luxembourg)\nFederico Graceffa (Imperial College London\, UK)\nYoshito Hirata (University of Tsukuba\, Japan)\nFrancoise Kemp (University of Luxembourg\, Luxembourg)\nChristian Kuehn (TU Munich\, Germany)\nJuergen Kurths (Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research and Humboldt University Berlin\, Germany)\nValdimir Levin (University of Luxembourg\, Luxembourg)\nTiejun Li (Peking University\, China)\nWei Lin (Fudan University\, China)\nRui Liu (South China University of Technology\, China)\nIacopo Longo (TU Munich\, Germany)\nValerio Lucarini (University of Reading\, UK)\nStefano Magni (University of Luxembourg\, Luxembourg)\nTadayoshi Matsumori (Toyota\, Japan)\nGuillermo Olicon-Mendez (Imperial College London\, UK)\nJulian Newman (University of Exeter\, UK)\nMakito Oku (University of Toyama\, Japan)\nGreg Pavliotis (Imperial College London\, UK)\nTiago Pereira (University of Sao Paulo\, Brazil)\nDaniele Proverbio (University of Luxembourg\, Luxembourg)\nMartin Rasmussen (Imperial College London\, UK)\nCourtney Quinn (CSIRO\, Hobart\, Australia)\nFlavia Remo (University  of Jena\, Germany)\nYuzuru Sato (Hokkaido University\, Japan)\nMarten Scheffer (Wageningen University\, Netherlands)\nDidier Sornette (ETH Zurich\, Switzerland ) \nFor further information and provisional schedule for the online workshop\, please visit https://bit.ly/workshopcriticaltransitions2020. Registration is compulsory and can be done on the workshop webpage.
