Keeping the poo from building up
Doctors call this 'maintenance'
Although the child’s bowels may be empty, they may still be stretched.
Giving the laxative every day will help to keep the poo soft and easy to pass.Well done on getting the hard lump of poo out. Now it’s time to focus on keeping the poo from building up again.
Having the laxative and sitting at the toilet every day will give your child the chance to go at home, and will give them (and you!) back some control.
Initially, your nurse specialist or consultant will guide you through. In the long term, you will have the confidence and knowledge to adjust the medicine depending on whether they need to poo less or more.
