Our dedicated Archaeological Proteomics wet lab is<\/span>\u00a0based in the <\/span>Department of Archaeology<\/a> at the <\/span>University of Reading<\/a> (Whiteknights campus). Here, we photograph and record all archaeological material before sampling. ZooMS generally requires small sample sizes (~5 mg, half a grain of rice).\u00a0 We are set up to perform high-throughput collagen extraction and peptide purification using 96-well plates.<\/span><\/p>\n

We collaborate with the University’s Chemical Analysis Facility<\/a> (CAF) for our Mass Spectrometry<\/a> analysis. We use a Waters Select Series Maldi<\/a> with advanced Multi Reflecting Time-of-Flight (MRT) technology to obtain high-resolution collagen fingerprints for ZooMS taxonomic identifications.<\/p>\n

We always welcome new projects and you can contact Karen<\/a> to discuss applications of proteomics (e.g. ZooMS) to specific sets of archaeological materials from any time period or geographic region.<\/p>\n
