Joint Directors of the Reading Centre for Cognition Research <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Professor Emma Borg<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Emma Borg joined the Philosophy Department at the University of Reading in 1998, having taken her M.Phil and Ph.D at University College London. Her main research interests lie in philosophy of language (where she defends a position known as \u2018minimal semantics\u2019) and philosophy of mind (where she is interested in issues such as the nature of pain, mindreading, mirror neurons and animal cognition). She has published widely in these areas.<\/p>\n

Emma has been Head of the Philosophy Department, a Visiting Professor at Rutgers Centre for Cognitive Science and the Institute of Advanced Studies in London, Associate Investigator at the Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence in Cognition and its Disorders, Macquarie University, and was the White Distinguished Visiting Professor at the University of Chicago. Emma has held various awards including a Philip Leverhulme Prize, two AHRC Research Leave awards and she has been PI on an AHRC Research Network (with Peking University, China). She has been awarded a Leverhulme Major Research Fellowship (October 2020 \u2013 September 2023) for work on reasons for action and rationality.<\/p>\n

Dr. Nat Hansen<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Dr. Nathaniel Hansen is Associate Professor in the Philosophy Department and he has a wealth of experience running interdisciplinary research projects. His own research focuses on experimental issues in philosophy of language; further details can be found at https:\/\/sites.google.com\/site\/nathanielhansen\/<\/a><\/p>\n

Members of the Reading Centre for Cognition Research<\/h4>\n

Members of the Centre are drawn from University of Reading staff and graduate students. Most members are based in either the Philosophy Department or the School of Psychology and Clinical Language Sciences (PCLS), however members also come from other Departments such as History, English, and Computational Science. For indicative names of past and present members, please see those listed on the Publications<\/a> page and on the Past Events<\/a> page.<\/p>\n

Membership is open to anyone at the University interested in the interdisciplinary understanding of the human mind. Individuals not based at the University but with an interest in the work of the Centre are welcome to join our mailing list and attend events.<\/p>\n
