{"id":2286,"date":"2024-09-23T12:27:48","date_gmt":"2024-09-23T11:27:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/research.reading.ac.uk\/digitalhumanities\/?p=2286"},"modified":"2024-09-23T12:27:48","modified_gmt":"2024-09-23T11:27:48","slug":"welcome-back-to-the-dh-hub-portal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/research.reading.ac.uk\/digitalhumanities\/welcome-back-to-the-dh-hub-portal\/","title":{"rendered":"Welcome (back) to the DH Hub portal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>With a new academic year beginning, we\u2019ve prepared a quick run-down of our resources and new portal content.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong>What is DH and the DH Hub?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>For those of you who are new to DH and the Hub, <a href=\"https:\/\/research.reading.ac.uk\/digitalhumanities\/about\/what-is-digital-humanities\/\">Digital Humanities<\/a> (DH) is the critical study of the intersection between digital technologies, disciplines in the Arts and Humanities, and scholarly communication.<\/p>\n<p>The DH Hub, which is part of the University Library, is your base for DH research support. The <a href=\"https:\/\/research.reading.ac.uk\/digitalhumanities\/about\/team\/\">Hub team<\/a> brings together academic and professional services colleagues from across the University. We use our combined expertise to <a href=\"https:\/\/research.reading.ac.uk\/digitalhumanities\/about\/support-overview\/\">enable DH research<\/a> in a variety of aspects, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>DH skills and training<\/li>\n<li>Project proposals, collaboration and funding<\/li>\n<li>Research data management, preservation and sharing<\/li>\n<li>Collections-based research and digital artefacts<\/li>\n<li>Programming and computing resources<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong>What can I find on the DH Hub portal?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>You can find answers to key questions which might arise when starting out with DH. These include \u2018What is Digital Humanities?\u2019 (for which, see our \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/research.reading.ac.uk\/digitalhumanities\/about\/what-is-digital-humanities\/\">What is Digital Humanities?<\/a>\u2019 page); \u2018Is my project DH?\u2019 (for which, see our DH <a href=\"https:\/\/research.reading.ac.uk\/digitalhumanities\/contact\/faqs\/\">FAQs<\/a>); and \u2018How, and why, might I engage with DH?\u2019 (for which, see our \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/research.reading.ac.uk\/digitalhumanities\/resources\/guides\/starting-out-with-dh\/\">Starting out with DH<\/a>\u2019 guide).<\/p>\n<p>You can see what <a href=\"https:\/\/research.reading.ac.uk\/digitalhumanities\/about\/support-overview\/\">support<\/a> is offered by the DH Hub and <a href=\"https:\/\/research.reading.ac.uk\/digitalhumanities\/cop\/\">DH CoP<\/a>. The Hub and CoP work closely together. The CoP promotes awareness of, and engagement with, DH among academics, and the Hub provides practical support for DH research.<\/p>\n<p>You can find out about <a href=\"https:\/\/research.reading.ac.uk\/digitalhumanities\/events\/\">events<\/a> that the DH Hub and DH CoP are running. These include networking events, drop-in sessions and methodological workshops.<\/p>\n<p>You can use the <a href=\"https:\/\/research.reading.ac.uk\/digitalhumanities\/resources\/\">resources<\/a> on our website to develop DH skills, for inspiration, and for help with DH projects. Our resources include <a href=\"https:\/\/research.reading.ac.uk\/digitalhumanities\/resources\/links\/\">links<\/a> (to courses, projects, software and more); <a href=\"https:\/\/research.reading.ac.uk\/digitalhumanities\/resources\/guides\/\">guides<\/a> (on, for example, <a href=\"https:\/\/research.reading.ac.uk\/digitalhumanities\/resources\/guides\/data-management\/\">Humanities Data Management<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/research.reading.ac.uk\/digitalhumanities\/resources\/guides\/collections\/\">Working with Collections<\/a>); and <a href=\"https:\/\/research.reading.ac.uk\/digitalhumanities\/resources\/case-studies\/\">case studies<\/a> (to which we will soon be adding).<\/p>\n<p>You can also <a href=\"https:\/\/research.reading.ac.uk\/digitalhumanities\/contact\/\">get in touch with us<\/a> to see how we can help.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong>What\u2019s new?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Our<a href=\"https:\/\/research.reading.ac.uk\/digitalhumanities\/events\/\"> calendar<\/a> has been updated with new events including our <a href=\"https:\/\/research.reading.ac.uk\/digitalhumanities\/event\/back-to-campus-in-person-networking-event\/\">Back to Campus Networking<\/a> (23 October) and <a href=\"https:\/\/research.reading.ac.uk\/digitalhumanities\/event\/humanities-data\/\">Humanities Data event<\/a> (20 November). More of these to come.<\/p>\n<p>We have published a new <a href=\"https:\/\/research.reading.ac.uk\/digitalhumanities\/resources\/guides\/digital-humanities-planning-tool\/\">Digital Humanities Planning Tool<\/a>, to guide you through technical, legal and ethical questions which might arise when planning a DH project.<\/p>\n<p>Over the summer, the DH CoP held its <a href=\"https:\/\/research.reading.ac.uk\/digitalhumanities\/digital-humanities-artificial-intelligence-conference-and-blog-series\/\">inaugural conference<\/a>, on the theme of Digital Humanities and Artificial Intelligence.
