Currently funded projects in DSAI:
ANT – Doctoral Network on Embedded AI Systems and Applications
The Doctoral Network ANT is funded by Horizon Europe Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Doctoral Networks programme for the period 2025-2028. It unites principal investigators and collaborators from 22 leading academic and industry partners to train 18 doctoral researchers across Europe and the UK. Through an innovative, interdisciplinary research and training programme, ANT tackles the core challenges of Embedded AI, accelerating the development of next-generation embedded AI systems and applications. Our doctoral candidates design high-performance, distributed algorithms and systems that meet strict resource constraints while ensuring adaptivity, scalability, robustness, privacy, security, and explainability. The project’s scientific achievements will drive breakthroughs in four high-impact domains: autonomous robotics, underwater IoT, mobile healthcare, and smart farming.
HarmonicAI is funded by Horizon Europe Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Staff Exchange programme for the period 2024-2027. The ambitious vision of HarmonicAI is to build a human-machine collaborative multi-objective design framework to foster coherently explainable, fair, and privacy-preserving AI for digital health. HarmonicAI draws together proven experts in AI, health care, IoT, data science, privacy, cyber security, software engineering, HCI, and industrial design with an underlying common aim to design and develop innovative technologies and guidelines to resolve ethical issues with respect to fairness and data privacy, achieve transparency of AI models, and enhance safety and trust in the deployment of AI for digital health.
COVER – Cooperative and Intelligent Unmanned Aerial Vehicles for Emergency Response Applications
COVER is funded by Horizon Europe Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Staff Exchange programme for the period 2023-2026. It aims to develop a cooperative, connected and intelligent unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) system for emergency response applications. It will create a context-aware and service-oriented UAV-to-everything network, as well as robust cooperative UAV sensing and computing schemes and intelligent cooperative UAV control strategies. By leveraging cutting-edge technologies, the project seeks to enhance the potential of participating researchers, promote research innovation, and contribute to European leadership in UAVs. The technologies and applications will have broad applications in various ERAs, as well as in public safety and agriculture.
