{"id":242,"date":"2021-07-05T10:55:55","date_gmt":"2021-07-05T09:55:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/research.reading.ac.uk\/ecmwf-collaboration\/?page_id=242"},"modified":"2021-07-05T11:06:54","modified_gmt":"2021-07-05T10:06:54","slug":"the-15-year-plan-for-ecmwfuor","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/research.reading.ac.uk\/earth-system-prediction\/the-15-year-plan-for-ecmwfuor\/","title":{"rendered":"The 15-year plan for ECMWF@UoR"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>In essence<\/strong>: the University of Reading is to fund a new \u00a330 million, 15-year research programme, if ECMWF moves to a new building on Whiteknights Campus.<\/p>\n<p>New investments in areas of research that are of mutually high strategic priority for both ECMWF and UoR, notably to help tackle some of the longer-term and really difficult challenges in ECMWF\u2019s future modelling and forecasting work.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Programme <\/strong>currently envisages three principal types of activity:<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Sustained research posts<\/span>, to enable deep and enduring work to help improve the ECMWF core model. Four posts, each for 15 years.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">UoR-ECMWF Fellowship Programme<\/span>, to enable fundamental research where it is urgently needed to solve the next decade\u2019s medium-range forecasting challenges. Ten 5-year Fellows, each with a 3-year researcher.<\/p>\n<p>UoR-ECMWF <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Doctoral Training Programme<\/span>.
