Alanood Alotaibi – “Pandemics and Economic Growth: Evidence from the 1918 Influenza in the UK” – PhD Seminar

This study investigates the link between the 1918 Influenza and economic growth in the UK. The pandemic

caused about 160,000 deaths in in England and Wales. The study applies an Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) cointegration approach. We find evidence of a strong and significant adverse effect of the pandemic on growth.
