We are pleased that Meggie Copsey-Blake has won the best poster in\u00a0the Prosperity & Resilience research theme<\/strong><\/a> in the annual\u00a0Undergraduate Research Opportunities Programme (UROP)<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0awards presentation earlier this month.<\/p>\n

UROP is the University of Reading’s initiative to offer undergraduate students in their middle year of study the chance to gain hands-on research experience on projects covering all disciplines across University.<\/p>\n

Meggie is studying BA English Language and Applied Linguistic and she worked with the Institute of Education\u2019s Dr.\u00a0Billy<\/span>\u00a0Wong<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0(Lecturer in Widening Participation) and later with Thames Valley Police\u2019s PC Tom Walters on the evaluation of the MiniPolice initiative at Reading.<\/p>\n

The MiniPolice initiative aims to offer primary school children (aged 9-11) first-hand experiences and engagements with their local community to develop a stronger sense of citizenship and responsibility, as well as a greater understanding of police work. This\u00a0report<\/a><\/strong>, co-authored by Dr. Wong and PC Tom Walters,\u00a0is an evaluation of the MiniPolice project in Reading, focusing on three cohorts of 60 MiniPolice students. The report was recently shared in a seminar at Mansfield to support the development of the National MiniPolice programme.<\/p>\n
