The Institute of Education’s annual Postgraduate Research (PGR) Conference took place on 13th<\/sup> June 2019 and was a big success.<\/p>\n

The opening keynote speech, by Dr. Naomi Flynn (IoE\u2019s Research Impact Lead), inspired our doctoral students to actively think about the importance of research impact and how such impact could be generated.<\/p>\n

The day then continued on the theme of research impact with parallel sessions which were presented by both of our doctoral students and staff. The \u2018Improving Equity and Inclusion through Education\u2019 (IEEE) strand included research presentations on ADHD students, curriculum decision making, school leadership and professional identities, while the \u2018Language and Literacy in Education\u2019 (LLE) strand covered research presentations on second language and bilingual learners, reading, vocabulary and listening skills. This year was the first time that some of IoE staff also presented their research at the conference as well. Altogether, we had 14 research presentations, making this conference our biggest one yet.<\/p>\n

During lunchtime, our conference participants also had an opportunity to explore research posters and share ideas and questions from the parallel sessions.<\/p>\n

The conference finished with Professor Cathy Tissot (Head of the IoE) leading the celebration of achievements of some of our doctoral students, and then the presentation of certificates for presenters by Dr. Daisy Powell and Dr. Holly Joseph (Co-Directors of the IoE\u2019s Postgraduate Research Studies programme).<\/p>\n

The day was a great opportunity to learn about some of the outstanding research taking place here at the IoE and to create a sense of community within our research students and staff.<\/p>\n
