Prof. Richard Harris<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0(Professor of History Education, University of Reading)\u00a0has recently completed his latest book chapter. The chapter, titled\u00a0\u2018<\/em>Disciplinary knowledge denied?\u2019<\/em>, <\/em>is published in a book titled\u00a0\u2018<\/em>Knowing history in schools: Powerful knowledge and the powers of knowledge\u2019<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

The book engages with recent debates around knowledge in the curriculum, in particular the social realist perspective on the importance of \u2018powerful knowledge\u2019. The chapter focuses on the reality of students\u2019 access to this \u2018powerful knowledge\u2019 and argues that the way the curriculum is organised means that many students are being denied access to forms of knowledge that can be seen as the most valuable. This fits in with recent research that Prof. Harris has been working on the nature and content of the history curriculum in schools, and is feeding into the notion of \u2018critical curriculum thinkers\u2019 that is part of the rationale for our teaching education programmes.<\/p>\n
