Dr. Karen Jones<\/a><\/strong> (Associate Professor of Educational Leadership and Management, University of Reading) recently submitted evidence to The All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Diversity and Inclusion in STEM<\/a><\/strong> inquiry, which was published this week.<\/p>\n

The APPG inquiry sought to detail the experiences of minoritised STEM workers and shine a light on positive sector-led initiatives and practices.\u00a0 The report is based on written evidence from over 85 organisations and individuals, four evidence roundtables with over 40 attendees and additional desk research comprising over 150 relevant sources. Research evidence submitted to this inquiry by Dr. Jones was funded by the Diversity and Inclusion Initiatives Fund at the University of Reading in 2019-2020. Dr. Jones research project was explicit in seeking to understand factors behind the statistics that show there is a deficit of female and minority staff in leadership and professorial roles in Higher Education.<\/p>\n

This, together with other evidence, informed The APPG report which brings together five key findings and six recommendations for UK Government and the STEM sector.<\/p>\n

We want to see a more equitable, inclusive & welcoming environment for all in the STEM workforce and support the recommendations set out by the Group and the British Science Association.<\/p>\n
