All surface, no substance\u2019, was led by SESTEM researcher Reham ElMorally, who is now a Teaching &amp; Learning Project Officer in the University of Reading\u2019s School of Agriculture, Policy and Development (SAPD).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/research.reading.ac.uk\/education\/2022\/06\/05\/news-new-research-paper-published-in-the-equity-in-education-society-journal-from-the-sestem-project-led-by-dr-billy-wong-associate-professor-in-widening-participation-university-of\/paper-abstract-image-1\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-3754\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-3754 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/research.reading.ac.uk\/education\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/35\/2022\/06\/paper-abstract-image-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"492\" height=\"590\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The paper discusses issues of racism and sexism in STEM degrees and explores the themes of microaggression, attitudes towards affirmative action and positive discrimination<em>, <\/em>and how policies can mediate systemic injustices through representation.
