NALDIC is the National Association for Language Development in the Curriculum and its membership spans practitioners, advisors and academics who have an interest in the teaching of students learning English as an additional language in UK educational settings. Professor Flynn serves on NALDIC\u2019s Executive Committee and currently chairs their Events Committee.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-4038 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/research.reading.ac.uk\/education\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/35\/2022\/11\/TRT-project-website-image.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"574\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/research.reading.ac.uk\/education\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/35\/2022\/11\/TRT-project-website-image.png 930w, https:\/\/research.reading.ac.uk\/education\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/35\/2022\/11\/TRT-project-website-image-300x157.png 300w, https:\/\/research.reading.ac.uk\/education\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/35\/2022\/11\/TRT-project-website-image-768x401.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 574px) 100vw, 574px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Talk Rich Teaching project combines Aniqa\u2019s PhD research project with Professor Flynn\u2019s research bringing a US-designed approach to teaching multilingual learners to the UK. From January to July 2022, Professor Flynn delivered whole staff professional learning opportunities using this approach in three inner-city linguistically diverse schools.<\/p>\n<p>In essence, the approach demands that teachers talk less and plan opportunities to talk more. Alongside Professor Flynn\u2019s professional development sequence, Aniqa designed bespoke tests to measure whether any changes in teaching supported multilingual pupils\u2019 development of English language and literacy. In their presentation, Aniqa\u2019s early findings suggest a positive impact of the teaching approach on multilingual children\u2019s speaking and listening in English.
