style=\"font-size: 18pt\">CONCEPT<br \/>\n<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In the context of future increasingly \u201cdigitalised\u201d borders, new challenges for secure identity management and secure identity and travel documents could emerge in the coming years and decades.<\/p>\n<p>EINSTEIN\u2019s <strong>ground-breaking vision<\/strong> is to significantly <strong>expand existing physical and digital identity checks, privacy-preserving identity management and fraud detection capability<\/strong> used by border and police authorities.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18pt\"><strong>APPROACH<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>EINSTEIN will develop, deploy and evaluate a <strong>novel<\/strong> <strong>set of interoperable applications<\/strong> addressing the <strong>whole identity lifecycle<\/strong> and applicable to a <strong>wide range of use cases and environments.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Online document issuance<\/strong>:\u00a0 a web application which provides the <strong>eGovernment service<\/strong> for a citizen to apply <strong>online<\/strong> for a first time or renewal of a document (e.g. travel, identity) with the main innovation to detect and prevent fraudulent enrolment of biometrics uploaded by the applicant.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Mobile document and identity checks:\u00a0<\/strong> an application, available on mobile devices (smartphones, tablets), that will be able to scan ID documents and determine if the the document is likely to be fraudulent or not.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Documents authentication<\/strong><strong>:<\/strong> an application supporting document experts from immigration services and border authorities to authenticate <em>travel, identity and breeder documents<\/em>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Pre-registration for border crossings:<\/strong> an application to enable travellers to pre-register for (land) border crossings to enable enhanced security checks and overall improved border crossing experience for travellers and border guards.<\/li>\n<li><strong>EES kiosk with advanced fraud detection:<\/strong> Development of a kiosk application to expedite entry of Third Country Natonals (TCNs) biometric and biographical data and to efficiently conduct fraud checks.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Fast track biometric corridor:<\/strong> An application which allows the identity verification of travellers at a border without the traveller having to stop supporting a smoother experience for both travellers and border guards.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The applications integrate state-of-the-art technology for s<strong>ecure identity creation, protection and management<\/strong>, <strong>document fraud detection and identity verification<\/strong> <strong>on-the-fly<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The applications will undergo extensive <strong>technical and<\/strong> <strong>user<\/strong> <strong>acceptance tests <\/strong>and<strong> undergo rigorous ethical and legal impact assessments<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Privacy is an essential concern of all European citizens and governments. EINSTEIN will ensure that all components will take into account privacy-by-design principles and be very flexible to ease their customization in order to meet not only the European legislation on data protection but also the ever-evolving national legislations on this matter, which may vary significantly from one country to the other.
