Postdoctoral Researchers:<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The department welcomes applicants for postdoctoral research in any area of expertise covered by our staff. Postdoctoral research benefit from the supportive environment and mentorship provided by the Centre. Some also find it productive to be included in the activities of related research centres, such as the Centre for Health Humanities<\/a> or the Centre for Book Cultures and Publishing<\/a>. For example, Dr. Alanna Skuse\u00a0(English Literature), is the Principal Investigator of \u2018Selfhood and the Surgically Altered Body in Early Modern England\u2019: a Wellcome Trust Postdoctoral Fellowship, and is working with the EMRC\u2019s Professor Michelle O\u2019Callaghan and Professor Andrew Mangham of the Centre for Health Humanities.<\/p>\n

Postgraduate Research:<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

The EMRC welcomes applications from postgraduate students and postdoctoral researchers from within or outside the University to join us for research in any area covered by the\u00a0collective expertise of staff in the Centre. Current PhD projects include: Early modern women\u2019s manuscript writing on women\u2019s rights; the ageing patient in early modern England (funded by the Wellcome Trust) and \u2018Prosecuting Piracy in Peacetime: Crime, Empire, and the High Court of Admiralty, 1607-1618\u2019 (a collaborative doctoral research project with the National Archives).<\/p>\n

Graduate training is available from the University\u2019s Graduate School<\/a>, which is also home to dedicated study spaces and IT facilities for postgraduates. After the first year of PhD study, there may be opportunities for postgraduates to gain some experience of teaching at undergraduate level in the department of the students\u2019 chosen discipline,<\/p>\n
