Recognition of these roles as \u2018key\u00a0workers\u2019 came in stark contrast to how hidden\u00a0food\u00a0work\u00a0typically remains.\u00a0Even more ethically motivated consumers have neglected\u00a0work\u00a0conditions supplying\u00a0their\u00a0food\u00a0(Gray 2013).\u00a0Popular narratives dismiss\u00a0food\u00a0production jobs as unskilled (Klocker et al 2020),\u00a0and\u00a0they typically earn low social\u00a0and\u00a0financial value. Terms for some\u00a0workers represent modern slavery (Howard\u00a0and\u00a0Forin\u00a02019); during the\u00a0Covid crisis some have been pressured to\u00a0work\u00a0in unsafe\u00a0conditions.\u00a0Even producers\u00a0meeting\u00a0ecologically sustainable standards struggle to fairly reward\u00a0labourers\u00a0(Wieler et al 2016). Many minority world countries struggle to balance reliance on migrant\u00a0food\u00a0workers with a desire to limit immigration (Rye\u00a0and\u00a0Scott 2018).\u00a0Labour-related inequities disproportionately impact people of\u00a0colour; racism\u00a0and\u00a0colonialist legacies limit access to becoming a\u00a0food\u00a0producer\u00a0(Levkoe\u00a0&amp;\u00a0Offeh-Gyimah 2020).\u00a0Technological solutions to\u00a0labour\u00a0shortages may well exacerbate injustices within\u00a0food\u00a0systems (Rotz et al 2019).\u00a0More promising might be\u00a0workers\u2019\u00a0collective action, particularly when connected to consumer campaigns (Minkoff Zern 2014).\u00a0These tensions suggest unresolved questions regarding how to achieve\u00a0just,\u00a0sustainable\u00a0food\u00a0systems in which jobs producing, processing\u00a0and\u00a0distributing\u00a0food\u00a0are\u00a0dignified\u00a0and\u00a0fairly rewarded. This session will explore\u00a0good\u00a0work\u00a0for\u00a0good\u00a0food:\u00a0How have\u00a0bad\u00a0food\u00a0jobs\u00a0become so prevalent?\u00a0Who will do\u00a0food\u00a0work\u00a0in future? How will they gain necessary skills\u00a0and\u00a0knowledge?\u00a0And\u00a0how can all\u00a0food\u00a0workers be guaranteed fair\u00a0conditions\u00a0and\u00a0rewards?\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt\">We welcome contributions considering all dimensions of\u00a0Good\u00a0Food\u00a0Work:\u00a0labour\u00a0migration; education\u00a0and\u00a0training; standards\u00a0and\u00a0certification;\u00a0dismantling racism\u00a0and\u00a0colonialist legacies; economics of fair pay; social recognition of\u00a0food\u00a0work; action for change;\u00a0doing research with\u00a0food\u00a0workers\u00a0and\u00a0activists.
