As Doctoral Researcher Representative on the Food Biosystems DTP Management Committee I have the opportunity to gain valuable experience in leadership and decision-making. My role allows me to actively participate in discussions with DTP directors and the management team at each Partner University, contributing to important decisions that shape the program. Doctoral Researcher Representative, FoodBioSystems DTP Selection Committee<\/p>\n

I studied at the University of Edinburgh and have since worked in the United States. Neither of my biological parents completed their GCSEs, so I\u2019m the first in my family to pursue higher education. My academic journey in the UK provided a strong foundation and set me firmly on the path to research. It\u2019s a path I\u2019ve followed with determination and a deep sense of purpose.<\/p>\n

To me, research represents freedom in many forms: the freedom to acquire and share knowledge with everyone I\u2019ve met, from small family farms to large commercial farming operations; the freedom to bridge gaps across different social classes; and, most importantly, the freedom to imagine and create a different future. A future shaped by the Food BioSystems, where progress is measured not just by human gain, but by the wellbeing of animals, the health of ecosystems, and the broader enlightenment of society.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1\/4″][vc_single_image image=”2450″ img_size=”medium”][\/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”3\/4″][vc_column_text]Thomas Smith, Cranfield University<\/strong><\/p>\n
