DESCRIPTION:HSE University\, New Economic School\, and University of Reading are organizing a conference on the football economics and finance. It is aimed to highlight high-quality research of the football industry as well as to facilitate the cooperation between academics and practitioners. \nTheoretical and/or empirical research papers that deal with economic\, financial\, social\, and managerial problems of football industry are welcome. The list of possible topics includes: success factors in football\, football leagues regulation\, financial fair-play\, tournament design\, contest theory\, optimization of match strategies\, corruption\, betting\, spectators’ demand studies\, financial and social issues of the World Cup\, scheduling\, competitive balance\, and other. \n\nWhen: 1-3 July\, 2020 \nCall for papers: Extended abstract (approximately 3 pages long) must be submitted through EasyChair by February 1\, 2020. \nThere is no conference fee. Participation is open to anyone interested in the field. However\, registration is needed (it will be opened in due course). \nSee more information on the conference website.

SUMMARY:First Reading Football Economics Workshop 2019
DESCRIPTION:The first Reading Football Economics Workshop will take place on 19-21 September 2019 in Reading\, and is hosted by the Centre for Institutions and Economic History at the University of Reading. There will be two keynote talks\, a number of contributed sessions and informal social events. \nThe workshop will feature research on the widest possible area of football economics or management\, be it applications to football\, or the use of football to inform economics and other topics. \nRegistration fee: £0 \nRegistration deadline: 5 August (by e-mail\, to j.j.reade@reading.ac.uk) \nProgramme: Final version \nKeynote Speakers: Christian Deutscher (Bielefeld University)\, David Forrest (University of Liverpool) \nLocation: Building L22\, London Road Campus\, University of Reading\, Reading\, RG1 5AQ\, UK [Campus map and travel advice] \nFunding: Unfortunately\, there is no funding available for this conference. \nAccommodation: The London Road Campus is just outside Reading town centre\, so there are lots of options within walking distance. We recommend Premier Inn Reading Central\, as it is convenient to the venue\, the train station and the town centre. \nTiming: The conference will begin at 1pm on the 19th and finish by 1pm on the 21st\, to facilitate travel etc \nSocial Events: On the Thursday and Friday evenings\, all participants are invited to The Dairy to watch have dinner and watch live football. \nThe organisers would like to invite you to attend the local English Football Championship game taking place on Saturday afternoon: Reading v Blackburn @ Madejski Stadium. This is not formally part of the workshop.
