In this short piece Anna discusses the project and her time spent at PRIO.<\/p>\n<p>Over the last decade, the use of drones has increased dramatically, giving rise to a range of distinct security issues and challenges. As the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.prio.org\/projects\/1902\">project page<\/a> details, \u2018significant international, regional, and national efforts\u2019 are thus underway to ensure the safe operation and integration of drones into civilian airspace. In response, the RegulAIR project \u2018aims to provide new research-based knowledge to Norwegian and EU regulatory bodies to contribute to the safe integration of drones into civilian airspace\u2019 by addressing \u2018two essential contemporary challenges: (1) how to conceive security in the three-dimensional airspace, and (2) how to reconceptualize the new security problem-set emanating from emerging technologies\u2019 (you can read more about the project <a href=\"https:\/\/www.prio.org\/projects\/1902\">here<\/a>, and more on drones and security in the Norwegian context\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.prio.org\/2022\/10\/drones-over-norway-a-security-and-regulatory-analysis\/\">here<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>It was fantastic to spend the week with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.prio.org\/people\/10958\">Bruno Oliveira Martins<\/a> and the wider RegulAIR team (which includes <a href=\"https:\/\/www.prio.org\/people\/6417\">Kristin Bergtora Sandvik<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.prio.org\/people\/11454\">Chantal Lavall\u00e9e<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.arthurhollandmichel.com\/bio\">Arthur Holland Michel<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.prio.org\/people\/12110\">Samar Abbas Nawaz<\/a>, and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.prio.org\/people\/12162\">Lise Endregard Hemat<\/a>). I learned more about how the fascinating project is unfolding and we reflected on how it fit with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/research.reading.ac.uk\/drone-geographies\/\">my own research<\/a>\u00a0in the context of the UK, we began developing a paper, we fed back on papers in progress, and \u2013 as an important culmination to the week \u2013 PRIO hosted the excellent \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/www.prio.org\/events\/8990\">Drones in civilian airspaces: Security, regulation, and imagination<\/a>\u2018 conference.<\/p>\n<p>It was a pleasure to participate, both as a speaker delivering a paper on \u2018diversifying imaginations of disruptive drones\u2019, and as the chair for the \u2018urban spaces\u2019 panel. In my paper, I argued for a need to expand our focus on potential drone disruptions as we imagine drones. To do this, I spoke about diversifying the who (actors), what (encounters), and where (sights\/sites) of drone disruptions, as they feature in, shape, and punctuate our imaginations of drones.<\/p>\n<p>It was such a pleasure to join the folks at The Peace Research Institute Oslo (PRIO), and to explore Oslo more broadly.
