{"id":2,"date":"2018-05-25T09:06:47","date_gmt":"2018-05-25T08:06:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/research.reading.ac.uk\/health-humanities\/?page_id=2"},"modified":"2020-11-25T15:42:11","modified_gmt":"2020-11-25T15:42:11","slug":"sample-page","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/research.reading.ac.uk\/health-humanities\/sample-page\/","title":{"rendered":"About us"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Centre for Health Humanities (CHH) is a multidisciplinary group of over forty academics at the University of Reading, whose interests coalesce around the themes of health, sickness, and wellbeing.<\/p>\n<p>Our aims are to promote transformative research, impact, and teaching on the cultural and scientific study of health in the humanities and sciences at Reading, and to provide a stimulating and supportive environment in which scholars can meet, share, and develop truly innovative ideas.<\/p>\n<p>Our three \u2018unique selling points\u2019 as a Centre are:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>A distinctively holistic approach to health, which encompasses a variety of conditions, stages, and outcomes of illness, from \u2018perfect recovery\u2019 and wellbeing, to abnormal development, starvation, and death. In doing so, we seek to broaden and rebalance our overall picture of the human condition, while fostering empathy for patients today.<\/li>\n<li>Our particularly wide chronological, global, and disciplinary scope, which stretches from medieval Europe to modern China, India and the Middle East, and brings together scholars from archaeology, English literature, history, pharmacy, psychology, linguistics, and modern languages.<\/li>\n<li>We benefit from a unique relationship with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reading.ac.uk\/special-collections\/\">Special Collections and Archives<\/a>, particularly the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reading.ac.uk\/special-collections\/collections\/sc-cole.aspx\">Cole Collection of Zoology and Early Medicine<\/a>.
