Perhaps one of the most intriguing questions about the Amazon and the people who lived there before the arrival of Europeans revolves around the way of life of these populations. Recently, Umberto Lombardo, a researcher based at the University of Bern, Switzerland, who is also a member of the HERCA project, published in Nature the findings of his research documenting that the cultivation of important species by Pre-Columbians in the Llanos de Moxos (Bolivia), such as squash (Cucurbita sp.), manioc (Manihot sp.) and maize (Zea mays), is older than initially thought. Also, the research confirms that the Llanos de Moxos is a hotspot for early plant cultivation.<\/p>\n
