Along with colleagues (Drs Bethan Linscott and David Chivall), HERCA members Prof. Christopher Bronk Ramsey and Dr Lorena Becerra Valdivia were awarded \u00a356,500 from the John Fell Fund, the University of Oxford, to develop compound-specific radiocarbon dating of lipids via SFE-pcGC at the Oxford Radiocarbon Accelerator Unit (ORAU). This project was born from the need to reliably date the archaeological site of Teotonio where, due to disturbed stratigraphy, the direct dating of ceramics belonging to unique cultural traditions is key in establishing a reliable chronology. Once finalised, the method developed will be used in both archaeological and paleoenvironmental applications, expanding the range of materials that can be reliably measured at the ORAU. The project will begin on January 10th, 2022, running for six months.
