Introduction
High-throughput diagnostic screening of large sets of clinical samples collected in a minimally or non-invasive manner can bring further advancements to the health services, particularly for diseases requiring mass testing campaigns such as infectious diseases. Furthermore, high-throughput screening can be also supportive of auspicious “smart medicine” concepts through (continuous) health status monitoring of individuals by tracking the presence and quantitative changes of different health and disease biomarkers. This will ultimately enable the development of individual, patient-tailored, and thus more effective therapies.
