Exploring Controversies in Food Production

The MOOC ‘Engaging with Controversies in the Food System’ will be developed and led by the University of Reading (UoR), working with researchers at the University of Turin (UNITO), the educational team at the European Food Information Council (EUFIC) and a Rising Food Star to be identified. The course will be freely available to the public via the FutureLearn (FL) platform. It will deliver interactive educational activities to inform and engage citizens about key controversies in the European food system. Controversies will be selected after wider consultation, and are likely to focus on:

  • The meat supply chain, possibly related to traceability;
  • The cereal/horticultural supply chain, perhaps related to GMOs;
  • A burning environmental issue, for instance food waste.

Participants will actively explore the controversies to evaluate state-of-the art understanding and current best practice, and to seek out opportunities for improvements, through responsible consumer choice.
